Generating a Habitat Map
Create a habitat map to visualize and understand the habitat distribution across your project area.
Overview
A habitat map provides a visual representation of different habitat types within your project boundaries. This map serves as the foundation for planning your data collection strategy.
Creating a Habitat Map
- Navigate to your project
- Go to the Maps section
- Click "Generate Habitat Map"
Map Generation Options
Using Existing Data
- Upload existing habitat classification data
- Import from GIS systems (Shapefile, GeoJSON)
- Use satellite imagery classification
AI-Generated Maps
- Use Mozaic Earth's AI to classify habitats from satellite imagery
- Select the classification system (e.g., UK Habitats, EUNIS)
- Set the resolution and accuracy requirements
Viewing Your Map
Once generated, you can:
- Zoom and Pan: Navigate around your project area
- Layer Controls: Toggle different habitat layers
- Legend: View habitat type classifications
- Export: Download the map for use in other systems
Using the Map for Sampling
The habitat map is used to:
- Inform your auto-sampling strategy
- Identify areas of interest
- Plan field collection routes
- Ensure representative coverage across habitat types
Next Steps
After generating your habitat map, proceed to create an auto-sampling strategy to determine where data will be collected.
